however far
this is for all the hurt and the hoping
this is for all just as we are
the tales and the tunes we share
are meant for the holding
and give us new soul to walk
however far
excerpt from “however far”
No (wo)man is an island, a poet once wrote (kind of). Thursday’s Child was born of such truth. Our songs try to express in ways which are honest the hopes and heartaches that are part of all our lives. So, too, the poetry, stories and reflections we share through worship, workshops and now this website.
In giving voice to such honest reflection we hope that ‘far to go’ people (and we count ourselves among them) might know they do not journey alone.
It feels an enormous privilege: to sing and know that folk are hearing their own stories in the fragments we write. What we do becomes, then, less about performing and more about being together on the road. That’s what we hope our writings might become for others: songs that sustain, songs for the road.
Welcome to “however far”…

It’s all too easy to feel inadequate and fearful in this sometimes senseless world. Thank you for your words which give us space to ponder and remind us to live in the here and now. Mostly though for the peace and acceptance that it’s ok to to question and doubt our often fragile faith. These writings are just so poignant and heart warming – I’ll definitely be coming back to this site often ❤️
Catherine- Thank you for writing and leaving your thoughts- which bring joy too.
